From the main tarred road leading south from Mombasa to the Tanzania border, a bumpy dirt road takes you past palm groves and mud houses to Msambweni. This is a relatively unspoiled stretch of beach edged primarily by private properties with colourful bougainvillea gardens. There are rocky outcrops, low cliffs and patches of coral on sandy bays. Crowds and beach vendors are rare.
