Desert Rose is a bush home nestled quietly on the southern slopes of Mount Nyiru, Northern Kenya, just south of Lake Turkana.
The five houses of Desert Rose have been individually designed around various natural features. Each open-air bathroom ensures total privacy and simultaneous exposure to the gifts of nature. The main lounge/dining room is situated to ensure panoramic views, while the pool perched on the edge with flat grass surrounding completes the harmony of this small creation.
The stunning landscape and interesting vegetation, which varies incredibly from the hot dry valley floor to the cool green forests on the top of the mountain, ensures there is plenty of variety in our forest walks. Game in the area is shy and scattered. Baboon and leopard are often heard close-by in the granite rock cliffs or the spectacular fig trees, which also abound in bird life.
The activities that can be enjoyed are as varied as the landscape that surrounds us and, amongst others, include picnics by the granite water-slide that tumbles from the nine thousand foot mountain above (this slide has also provided many children with days of amusement and entertainment), relaxing by the swimming pool, numerous walks, (including up the mountain which offers a spectacular diversity of flora and fauna,) and 3-7 day camel safaris which offer a timeless way to explore an unchanged culture.
