Within the famous Rift Valley, the Ewaso Ngiro River flows from the highlands of the Mau escarpment into the soda lake of Lake Natron. Hidden away on the fig tree shaded river banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River, beyond Lake Magadi is Loisiijo Lodge.
Just 3 hours drive from Nairobi, this is the perfect weekend retreat for nature lovers. You can also combine a stay at 'Loisiijo' on a safari travelling between Amboseli and Masai Mara.
Four small cottages overlooking the river can accommodate up to 10 guests on a self catering basis.
A large dining area and well equipped kitchen is available for your use. A cook will be available for your stay.
Catering service can be organised if planned & booked in advance.
Community Tourism Project.
The local Masai community has been involved in the construction of this lodge in terms of supplying local traditional materials as well as labour.
When staying at 'Loisiijo' you will be supporting the local Masai who are the owners of the lodge. Revenue from tourism & visits to the conservation area are contributing to the well-being of the local
people.
Activities:-
• Bird watching – this is tweeters' paradise with over 350 species in the area. Flocks of flamingoes and other water birds of Lake Magadi, riverine forest at the lodge, as well as surrounding bushland and grasslands, you don't even have to move from the camp to see a fantastic variety of birdlife.
• Game drives in the Shompole Conservation Area (100 sq km). This conservation area is a fine example of Community owned conservation. You can see a wide variety of wildlife including oryx, elephant, buffalo, eland, giraffe, gazelle & lion.
• Night game drives and possibility to join one of the animal research projects on their field trip (lions, striped hyenas, baboons)
• Nature walks with local Masai guides.
• Cultural tourism. Visits to traditional Masai villages
• Archeological – visit Olorgesaille National Museum site on the road from Nairobi to Magadi.
