Selous Game Reserve
The Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa, an uninhabited area the size of Switzerland, a vast untamed wilderness.
The park is named after a Captain Frederick Selous who was killed in action in 1917 whilst scouting in the area. The Rufiji River flows through the reserve and floods during the rainy season from April to June, making the reserve inaccessible to man during that time.
This isolation accounts for its prolific wildlife which includes elephant, lion, buffalo, gazelle, eland, zebra and kudu.
