Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is the world's second largest freshwater lake covering an area of 67,850 square kilometres. This vast expanse forms the main headwaters of the River Nile.
Three nations share the waters of Victoria - Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The Lake once had an abundance of hippo and crocodile but these are now much reduced. Tilapia, Nile Perch and several other species of fish provide an income for the fleets of fishing canoes and boats which sell their catches at markets along the Lake's coast.
