The Island Hotel is situated in the sleepy village of Shella which lies approximately 3 kilometres along the beach from the hustle and bustle of Lamu town on Lamu Island. The inhabitants of Shela, approximately 700 people, are traditionally fishermen but are now dependent upon tourism for their livelihood. The atmosphere is peaceful and the village people are among the friendliest to be found anywhere.
