Kensington Crater Camp is a wilderness tented camp close to the rim of the Ngorongoro caldera. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera of the once-volcanic Ngorongoro shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth, ringed with towering walls and sheltering forests, grasslands, fresh springs and a large soda lake. Tucked in a wooded valley a few minutes’ drive from the crater rim, the camp offers an intimate experience in the misty reaches of Ngorongoro park. Arriving by air, you land at the Manyara airstrip and are transferred to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to the crater's rim. This camp has only six tents. Each tent is luxuriously spread in a forested grove with spectacular views across the plains Furnished with Masai inspired style, with campaign furniture and canvas wardrobe. The Masai theme is showcased with evocative headboards, lamps and fixtures. Each tent features two queen beds. Valet service is provided. Each tent has an open shaded veranda. Inside, the bedroom features over-sized windows allowing cool breezes and warm light to wash through, while keeping the insects outdoors. Immediately behind the bedroom is a change area with ceramic sink. There is a flush toilet and the camp features hot and cold running water to ensure long hot morning showers to chase the chill. Enjoy delicious Pan-African and traditional bush cuisine, served in the large canvas dining tent overlooking the plains. Weather permitting, meals can be individually served in your own veranda. Picnic meals can also be prepared for your full day game drives. Menus feature locally grown vegetables and fresh ingredients. Expert guides will lead you on exciting game-drives into the Crater and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Explore the caldera floor in the expert care of our house guides in 4x4 Land Cruiser game viewing vehicles. Typically there will be one crater visit per day, departing the camp between 6-7am to see the animals when they are most active. Clients may request a picnic lunch for an extended game drive in the crater at no extra cost. Complementary extras include hiking in the nearby tall hills in the company of Masai guides for a spectacular view of the setting sun.
