Barbara and I both thought it was a spectacular trip - love Kenya and Rwanda was wonderful.......all the connections and transfers you arranged went off without a hitch......
Joseph was amazing - he made the trip for us through Nairobi, Lake Nakuru and Samburu - and turned us into birders.
Mascula House is the place to stay - Stephen is very good.
Naibor and Porini were both really good choices - very good guides, good food, comfortable and personable. Wouldn't recommend Larsen's - just too big corporate feeling and their tipping system was far too confusing - but the pool was great to have. Speaking of tips, I think we short changed the people at the place we stayed in Lake Nakuru (it is a beautiful place, with good food and nice people - recommended). We didn't mean to - we put a tip (everywhere we went, I put in more than suggested so hopefully I made up for it here) in the box but I think the porters were expecting a tip in addition but I didn't twig to that until a couple of days later when I saw the same behaviour at Larsens. Naibor and Porini were very clear as to how much and where to put it - so much easier to deal with.
Rwanda was a revelation - very clean country. Kigali doesn't have a spec of litter anywhere. It's a pretty city - lots of parks and wide boulevards. The country around the mountains is beautiful. We were also able to walk between the hotel (which was an amazing place - we never stay in such luxury - could really get used to it!) and local villages (about 3KM away) without escort and then we walked back from one of the mountain hikes - about 5km - no one had any concerns for our safety and we certainly felt very safe. It may not be like this in the whole country but certainly around the mountains it was safe - it was wonderful.
Again, thanks very much for all your help with this trip - all the work paid off in a wonderful vacation for both B and me.
Just a short note from me to say that I have just returned from a trip to the United States where I spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sedgwick and John Brown, and they were full of endless praise for the marvellous safaris you had arranged for each of them, the Sedgwicks in Kenya, John Brown to Mahale in Tanzania. Everything worked ran like clockwork, so that they could enjoy their adventures to the full, and they expressed enormous apprecaition to you for your superb organisation and efficiency. As always, this comes with a huge thank you for me for continuing to look after my friends travelling to East Africa.
Meanwhile, I look forward to keeping in touch with you relating to my own safari I am planning for August 2011.
Again, George, this comes with many thanks and best wishes
