Suyian Soul is nestled in the Southern east corner of Suyian Ranch which covers 43,000 acres of spectacularly beautiful scenery in northwest Laikipia. Within Suyian and stretching out into the wider ecosystems there occurs significant populations of elephants, reticulated giraffe, ostrich, hippo, Burchell’s zebra, Grevy’s zebra, buffalo, lions, leopards, African wild dogs and occasionally cheetah, among many other species. The property is also home to the rare and interesting species of plants. Anne’s family the Powys’ have operated a family livestock business on Suyian for nearly 100 years.

A simple earthy camp set next to a natural spring and salt lick on Suyian Ranch. The camp has a small human footprint, with a view to minimizing environmental impact. All power is supplied by solar technology and water is pumped by solar energy from the nearby river. Suyian has been built using local material collected from the Ranch, there is no cement in any of the buildings the plaster mix consists of claylike soil from termite mounds mixed with sand. There is an electric fence around camp to prevent elephant coming in amongst the rooms and mainly to stop them breaking the trees. The natural salt lick draws a variety of mammals, ensuring an intimate experience with nature.

The Accommodation consists of 6 thatched cottages – guests to Suyian will be comfortably accommodated in simple thatched cottages, built using local material with views of Mt Kenya and the Aberdares. Safari style bucket showers are out under the stars; toilets are long drops to save water in this arid environment. All rooms have mosquito nets to prevent grass mosquito’s bothering guests; we do not have any malaria in our area yet. The water in the bathrooms and in the showers comes from the Uaso Narok River, safe for washing. Drinking water is usually rainwater or borehole water.
