6 nights 7 days
Porini Adventure Camping
Accommodation is in small 2-man dome tents. It is “real camping” and all guests who book the Mobile Adventure 4x4 Safari need to bring their own sleeping bag as well as a towel. All meals are prepared by the camp cook. Mineral water is provided in camp and on game drives but guests need to buy their own drinks at a supermarket en route to each camp.
The big attraction is being in small campsites in exclusive wildlife conservancies with activity-packed itineraries and excellent guides and with game drives in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles, not vans. This camping safari has been designed to offer the same high quality wildlife safari experience provided by the top-end safari camps, with 4x4 game viewing escorted by top class guides and in exclusive wildlife conservancies away from the tourist minibuses, but at a hugely reduced price by staying in small basic mobile camps, “real camping” instead of the luxury accommodation of the expensive up-market tented lodges.
For those for whom the wildlife safari experience is more important than the accommodation, and who are prepared to sleep in small tents in sleeping bags on a mattress on the floor with an element of “roughing it”, this gives an opportunity for an exceptional and exclusive wildlife experience with high quality guiding but at a fraction of the price. The Gamewatchers Mobile Camps are sited in private conservancies with a wealth of wildlife and where you can go on walks with Maasai guides and take night drives but they are also conveniently located for easy access to Amboseli National Park and the Maasai Mara Reserve.

Nomadic Trail Camel Safari
-
Each safari is different. Each one is tailored to your interest, the time you have available and the season. Moonlight is a bonus. The distance you cover each day is flexible, depending on you and suitable campsites, but it is usually between 8-20kms. You don't have to be superfit, just a little resilient. It takes time to tune into nomadic life - but once it grabs…… these will be days you won't forget.
-
Using camels to carry camping gear and supplies enables us to travel in style in this rugged and relatively unexplored country. These are walking safaris but one or two riding camels are always available, terrain permitting. Porters are called in when one of the striking peaks is our destination and it is too steep and cold for the 'ships of the desert'. The climate is hot and dry. Rains are expected in April/May and again in November. This in no way prevents us from going on safari: seeing a dry lugga change to a roaring torrent in 2 minutes is something else!
-
Your hosts are Helen Douglas Dufresne and her loyal Samburu crew who are committed to ensuring that you enjoy your safari in every possible comfort and safety. They make a good team, are all experts in the bush and will proudly show you everything of interest. Helen, after many years in the district, is well known and respected by the local people and well versed in folklore, botany, ornithology and astrology.
